FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find Out More

Will this treatment work for me?

Iboga and Ibogaine are not magic pills. You will get out of it what you put into it. The medicine itself is only half of the work. Integration following treatment is necessary, plus aftercare to create some "clean time" and put in place healthy new habits to fill the space formerly occupied by addiction to avoid relapse.

What is the difference between iboga and ibogaine?

Iboga is the root bark itself of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub, ground into powder. It is ingested by capsules or, following Bwiti tradition, taken by the spoonful.

Ibogaine HCL is an alkaloid extracted from iboga root bark in a lab. The doses are potent and a much smaller dosage is used.

What can I expect during treatment?

Depending upon your treatment selection (low- to medium-dose escalation over a period of time or a flood dose) you can expect a 90-100% painless withdrawal alongside a temporary "defrag" of the brain and insights into your subconscious memories that help heal wounds of the mind and spirit. It is common to have a buzzing sound inside the head, you may experience reality-based or symbolic visions and ataxia.

The Ibogaine experience is broken down in three separate phases.

Whether you are coming to Ibogaine Healing Center for addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD or just spiritual healing, we have found that by breaking down the three phases of a typical Ibogaine experience, giving patients a better understanding of what Ibogaine does and what they can expect during and after their treatment gives most patients a sense of comfort and the ability to be more open to the experience.

  • 1 The first phase… the visionary phase begins 1-3 hours after an individual takes the Ibogaine and typically lasts between 4-8 hours. In this phase individual are in a conscious dream-like state in which most individuals describe a “slide show” of visual experiences of past memories. This phase can actually be a tool to help one explore their past and their own self. This can be beneficial by allowing individuals to get to the cause of their problems and address them.
  • 2 The second phase is known as the introspection/evaluation phase. This phase begins approximately 4-8 hours after taking Ibogaine and can last between 24-36 hours. The introspection/evaluation phase is responsible for the psychotherapeutic effects of ibogaine, allowing individuals insight into their own problems and behaviors as well as helping them face and conquer fears and negative emotions. Ibogaine creates an altered dream-like state of consciousness giving each person the ability to be aware and process their own memories, life experiences, and past issues of pain and/or trauma. During this time, individuals experience a full range of emotions as well as physical and emotional exhaustion due to the strong nature of their ibogaine experience. There are some individuals that completely overcome their emotional issues by what has been revealed to them, while others may need more time. What most people have in common is the roller coaster ride of emotions they experience. This is all normal and a large part of the healing process. Regardless of what an individual is or is not feeling, it is important to go with it. Although this process may be uncomfortable, “letting go” and surrendering to the process will be largely responsible for the success of ones Ibogaine treatment.

  • After Ibogaine treatment, most individuals find an incredible sense of calm and comfort. Ibogaine’s anti-depressive effect establishes a state of well-being, freeing individuals of old negative thought patterns and anxiety which ultimately may have been responsible for their past pain and behaviors. Although Ibogaine’s magical medicinal power gives individuals the ability to face and “let go” of past pains and traumas in a number of hours, it is not a “magic bullet”. Tranquil Vines encourages individuals to take time to reflect on their journey, recognize and identify what social and external factors may have caused and/or supported past feelings and behaviors.

Are Iboga and Ibogaine addictive?

These medicines, while a fascinating experience in many ways, are brain resetting tools to interrupt addiction and do not provide the body pleasure similar to drugs like heroin, cocaine or meth.

Why is aftercare important?

Aftercare helps prevent relapse.

Recovery is hard work. It requires daily mindfulness and a high level of self-care. Aftercare helps you stay on track with your recovery plan and your short- and long-term goals. The likelihood of long-term abstinence increases by 20 percent for each consecutive month you engage with your aftercare plan during your first six months after treatment.

Aftercare is an individualized plan that’s implemented once primary treatment is complete. Your aftercare plan is designed based on your specific needs and issues to help you navigate early solo recovery.

We help provide a full spectrum menu of self-care options that we ask all to participate in for the duration of their stay. While we realize not every activity will speak to everyone, we want to provide enough options, so that once the time here is completed, the participant will have discovered what practices ring true and work for them. We want people to leave our facility with the necessary tools to take home and implement a proper self care routine. At Iboga Treatment Center , we are here to help restore and instill that balance.
